Although I give many talks and have written many articles about being prepared when in the back country, this time I'd like to let this "photo-essay" bring it all together for you. It may take some time to download, so be patient!

![]() 18. carry a good assortment of 3/4 or 7/8 inch D-shackles,

![]() 21. including how to rig the chain safely. |
![]() 22. A good set of tire chains that are easy to install when in the deep... |
![]() 23. You carry the basic tools you know how to use for repairs, |
![]() 24. spare lubes, hoses, belts, tire fix-it, wheel bearings, u-joint, extra oil, |
![]() 25. air, fuel filters and tune-up parts..and duct tape...

![]() 26. a good recovery strap or two, |
![]() 27. a good portable anchor like this Pull-Pal.

![]() 28. You never know when you might need a yank! |
![]() 29. The best thing to bring along is a buddy to help guide over the rocks,

![]() 30. and check out the stream depth (or mud hole). |
![]() 31. Watch your ground clearance on the rocks, |

![]() 33. especially where the "little-ones" are concerned. |
