BACK COUNTRY TRIPS
Flat Tops Wilderness & Transfer Trail Trip
August 4-6. $630./vehicle. Limit 5 vehicles.
We’ll meet in Glenwood Springs CO
for this trip. You may want to
soak in the famous Hot Springs and wander the streets of this
historic mountain town. We will hop onto the Transfer Trail and
climb
up out of the canyon to gain almost 2000 feet above the Colorado
River Canyon for a fantastic view of the Roaring Fork Valley all the
way south to Aspen. This historic route was used by Ute Indians and
trappers in the early days and we will trace the track up to the
edge
of the Flat Tops Wilderness area. There are a couple ways to get
around the wilderness area and we will review the maps to see what
the group thinks is best. Camping will be primitive and around 9200
feet. The wildflowers should still be blooming and the terrain is
moderate rocky and possibly muddy. For vehicles with good tires
and solid recovery points. Self sufficient camping, 5 gallons gas
extra, CB radio.

-----------------------------------------------------
We suggest pre-trip check-up for your
vehicle to catch important
stuff before
you get on the trails such as
fluid levels, belts and
hoses, filters,
wheel
bearings, check brakes, current
registration and insurance,
etc.
As part of the conditions of our permits for
many of our
overnight camping
trips, portable toilets are required by
the BLM and USFS. As
responsible 4-wheelers, we must
address the issue of human
waste
ethics.
That's right,
we're talking about poop!
Please
be prepared for proper
disposal.
We use and recommend the
PETT.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE
MAZE TRIP - April 2004:
There was snow, there was mud, there was sunshine, there was
adventure! 4-Wheeling America's much-anticipated trip into the Maze
district of Canyonlands National Park was an unparalleled off-road
adventure into a land hundreds of miles from the nearest gas
station. It was a trip back in time, almost unequalled in this
generation from pectographs that pre-date the Anasazi civilization
to abandoned mines and claims, to an old ranch with a complete Model
A Ford! The group explored slot canyons on foot and camped in places
that most people only dream about.

Hole-in-the-Rock
Adventure w/Elephant Hill.
Remote,
historic trail in
and out. 60
miles of
fantastic slickrock 4-wheeling.
This is
a fairly rugged route. Includes camping out each
night. People must be self-sufficient as far as food,
camping gear, vehicle set-up and spare parts.
Dear Bill, I can’t say
enough good things about the Hole in the Rock trip. It was a
fabulous mix of
terrain (from slick rock to pine forest), scenery, and history
combined with great camping
and fireside conversation. Your coaching made the
4 wheeling an
enjoyable opportunity
to improve my skills on challenging trails. The trip introduced
me to country that will be
a pleasure to further explore for years to come. This was the
complete package:
on all levels, a most excellent adventure. On a personal
note, I want to thank you
for being a supportive, encouraging, knowledgeable, patient, and
humorous trip leader.
Thanks again for a wonderful, memorable experience. Eric Ball,
