Guided Trips, Adventures, Expeditions

Don't be a stick-in-the-mud! Call 970-858-3468 to reserve your space.

We suggest pre-trip check-up for your vehicle to catch important stuff before you get on the trails such as fluid levels, belts and hoses, filters, wheel bearings, check brakes, current registration and insurance, etc. As part of the conditions of permits for many of our overnight camping trips, portable toilets are required by the BLM and USFS. As responsible 4-wheelers, we must address the issue of human waste ethics. That's right, we're talking about poop! Please be prepared for proper disposal. We use and recommend the PETT.

All camping trips require self-sufficiency as far as food, camping gear, vehicle set-up and spare parts. Minimum of 4 vehicles registered to hold trips.

Moab UT

May 3-7 - Hotel Rock to The Needles Expedition. $925./vehicle. Limit 5 vehicles.
This new trip is about visiting the ruins and historic sites around the Abajo (Lower La Sal) mountains. So we will be tourists, campers and 4-wheelers on this fun trip. Hotel Rock is an ancient ruins that is ‘condo’ size, built high above the Comb Wash valley floor. There are two routes to this ruins. The one we will take is challenging (hardest of the trip) but with good spotting can be driven with moderately set up rigs. Most of the routes on which we will be traveling are easy/moderate and since we will be camping along the way vehicles should be well prepped, have quality tires, strong suspensions and at least one traction enhancement device (Electronic traction OK) and strong recovery points. The weather is finicky this time of year and we will be working our way over the ‘back-side’ of the Elk Ridge which is about 7500 feet. We will try to set up a base camp for two parts of the trip. We’ll end up wandering through Ruin Park and into the Needles district of Canyonlands NP and up over Elephant Hill. The last official stop will be Newspaper Rock.

Colorado

August 9-13. Northern Colorado Adventure. $925./vehicle. Limit 6 vehicles.
This trip meets in the Fort Collins, CO area and drives through horse country, the Roosevelt National Forest, the Steamboat Springs including Rabbit Ears and Hahn's Peak. Classic Colorado Continental Divide adventure!

Vehicle requirements: CB radio, strong tires, adequate protection on the rig, self-sufficient camping. We will re-provision mid-trip but have an extra 5 gallons of gas on board and food/water for the first 3 days

August 23-27 – Grand Mesa to Glenwood Springs. $925./vehicle. Limit 5 vehicles. This sampling of the Western High-country will bring you to a new Colorado you may not have thought existed. The terrain we will travel across encompasses the high volcanic edge of the beginning of the Colorado Plateau geologic formation that helped create the Glenn and Grand Canyons. The Colorado River gains momentum as it rolls through the White River National Forest north of Glenwood Springs and get volumes of water from the Eagle and Roaring Fork rivers as they roll out of Vail and Aspen.

We will meet in Grand Junction, CO and the trip will end up near Glenwood Springs. Grand Mesa is the continent’s largest Mesa formation and it is mostly volcanic. Pines, Spruce and Aspen trees and any remaining wildflowers will be the forest through which we’ll travel. The roads are moderate with rocks (Rocky Mountains, you know) and if there is any rain, can be muddy! We will travel any number of roads, but will encounter Long Slough across Grand Mesa, Transfer Trail over the Flat Tops region and a few others that come up in between.

Vehicle requirements: CB radio, strong tires, adequate protection on the rig, self-sufficient camping. We will re-provision mid-trip but have an extra 5 gallons of gas on board and food/water for the first 3 days

Moab

September 13-15 - Trail Days: Follow Bill, up the hill, hone yur skill! $555./vehicle/all 3 days or $185./vehicle/per day. Choose 1, 2, or all 3 days.
Each morning we will meet in town and head out to a different trail, then we head back into Moab. This is not a camping trip, but if you want to camp, you can. Vehicle requirements: strong 32" or better tire, one locker or traction enhancement device, CB, adequate protection, strong recovery points.

Pete and I had the best Jeep adventure with you ever at Borrego Springs. You inspire such confidence with unending patience. How do you do it? You are truly a uniquely talented teacher who teaches with not only your wonderful brain, but your heart and soul. Sarah Blackwood, 11/09.
